Panic Room
Conventions- there aren’t many conventions in panic room apart from at the beginning when the camera is slowly zooming in and becoming lower and lower before focusing on the particular character that they have ‘chosen’. The music is also very specific to the conventions as its high tempo and fast.
Use of titles- the titles come up in big silver shiny letters dotted around the city in different places and on different buildings. And floating in the city. At points in the film they zoom from different points of the city. There silver in colour and almost ballon like in look and a very bold font.
Mis en scene- there is a lot of building and stuff in the city from a high point. There are a lot of people walking on the streets below but we cant see any specific people until the end when they pan down onto 2 people.
Sound- it starts as very serious and orchestral.
- it the becomes very fast and rushed which makes the audience feel that something is going to happen or about to happen.
- and then by the end it’s a mixture of the two which allows the audience to feel confused but excited at the same time.
The camera angles are always high camera angles and wide sweeping shots of the city or at some points from ground level of the city but that is mainly towards the end. They keep at a regular pace and change at the same kind of times after 10 seconds.
The general feel of the opening titles are very good and give a general overview of the city and the setting for the film. Whilst also getting the audience excited and interested in the film.
Se7en titles
Conventions- the use of dark colours i.e. The reds, blacks and dingy whites
Battle between purity and evil whilst Lots of quick jagged changes between scenes allow a weird and almost freaky feel to it and these are big conventions for thrillers as a whole.
Use of titles- written in “handwriting font” that come in at random points with either the picture background or the a black background and distorts and flickers at times.
Mis en scene- man working in a room
Looking through books of ‘creepy stuff’ and developing photos in the old fashion way.
Making cups of tea which is a normal everyday thing that allow you to feel like that’s very close to home for the audience.
Writing a book in old pen which is creepy and old in a modern world.
Sound- the only sound in the opening of se7en is sound that you would expect to hear in it. The sound is sonic exaggeration because its sound that is usually used in normal days but has been exaggerated and it fits in with what’s being shown on the screen.
Camera techniques- there’s a lot of close ups on what’s happening and that makes it very awkward for the viewer being so close to what’s happening but it makes us unaware of who’s doing it and this almost puts the audience on edge.
300-film analysis
Conventions in the thrillers- lots of dark and dingy colours which make the viewer know what’s going on in the film and gives them and immediate opinion that the film would be an unhappy film.
-Red blood splats
-Red blood like handwriting letters
-Depiction of fights and wars
Camerawork- lots of switching moving cartoon work that switches easily and regularly which means that its very it makes the audience confused and unsure on what’s going on.
Sounds- fast and jumpy very quick and up tempo music that gets the audiences attention and grips them to the film meaning that it’s very similar to the ideals of a thriller film.
Misencene - lots of fighting swords, armour and fighting and general scenes of typical war and fighting. Which gives off the impression of an olden day feeling and a medieval look.
Use of titles- they always come up in the red bloody letters like they have been splattered on the camera and this makes them feel really gory and gruesome and almost shock the viewer.
Rear window
Conventions- the use of the big red lettering for the titles. The use voyeurism to look at people almost like victims. Similarly to that of the film psycho also directed by Alfred Hitchcock but in psycho the killer looks from the outside in were as in rear window they go from inside to out.
Use of titles- the titles are written in a big bold red letters as the blinds on a window behind slowly opening showing that the point of view shot is waiting to go out almost.
Mis en scene- there is a lot of the windows and the blind being pulled up with the inner city view in the background and this means that they aren’t really going for full effects but instead they are making the viewer think that what they are seeing could happen to them because its such a normal everyday scene.
Sound- just one slow but still very happy tune which doesn’t really adhere to the normal or expected tune for a horror film.
Camera work- just the one shot of the windows and blinds being lifted up and this allows makes you think that there is a normal world and its an averaged angled shot.
Bonnie and Clyde
Conventions- the writing that turns red and this shows that this gives a much more horror based idea because it makes you feel that there is commonly used. This is commonly used in the horror film genre and this makes you aware of it when watching the film.
Camera work- close ups because this makes you feel that your getting to know what’s going on and this makes you a lot more closer to the film and gets you into the story from the beginning.
Sound- no sound apart from that of a camera click every time the picture changes. This gives a much more weird and confusing scene and this makes you ask a lot of questions about what’s going on.
Mis-encene- there’s lots of old pictures of family and other old pictures and this kind of sets the scene and allows you to feel a lot closer to the story and the family and makes you feel like you know them.
Use of titles- the titles come on when they change the pictures and they come up and this links in with the idea of you getting to know the characters or the people in the pictures.
Dawn of the dead
Conventions- the red writing and the quick changing of scenes and clips of press conferences and bloody scenes and this is also fits in with a lot of conventions. This makes you think a lot about what’s going to happen in the rest of the film.
Camera angles- lots of different angles and shots from close up bloody face shots to wide angled of lots of people and stuff and this makes you wonder about what will happen.
Sound- Mainly of a press conference happening with the different images going over it. This make you wonder what’s going on and what they are talking about and this means you watch the rest of the film to find out.
Mis en scene- different images of gory things and blood and more random things like a mosque and a half naked man in pain. This adds to the confusion as to what’s going on and why this is happening.
Use of titles- the titles come up with the rest of the work and this means that you don’t really pay attention and this allows you to continue your wonder of what the background images are meaning.
